Golfing at Grand Elk Golf Club is not just about hitting fairways and sinking putts—it’s about immersing yourself in the stunning natural landscape of Colorado. Located in the picturesque town of Granby, this Craig Stadler-designed course offers an unrivaled mix of championship-level play and breathtaking mountain views that make every hole a unique adventure.
From the moment I stepped onto the first tee, I was captivated by the sweeping vistas of the Continental Divide. The opening holes are wide enough to ease you into your round, but don’t be fooled—the strategically placed bunkers and water hazards demand precision. The course cleverly incorporates the natural terrain, with elevation changes and undulating greens that keep you thinking two shots ahead.
One standout moment was at the 9th hole—a tricky par-4 where a well-placed tee shot can set you up for a birdie, but stray too far left, and you’re in deep rough. The back nine ramps up the challenge, especially on the signature 14th hole, a par-3 where a picturesque lake guards the green, adding a nerve-wracking element to an otherwise serene setting.
The course conditions were impeccable; the greens rolled fast and true, while the fairways were lush and perfectly manicured. As someone who’s played many courses, I can confidently say that Grand Elk’s layout strikes the perfect balance between challenge and playability.
After the round, I headed to the clubhouse, where a warm, rustic ambiance awaited. The panoramic windows offer a perfect view of the mountains, making it an ideal spot to relax and relive your best (and worst) shots over a delicious meal.
Playing at Grand Elk Golf Club isn’t just a round of golf—it’s a complete experience that blends challenging play with the serenity of nature. It’s a course that will have you coming back again and again, not just for the golf but for the unforgettable scenery that surrounds you.
