This is the first stop of 2 courses at Verrado. Victory at Verrado is is pushed into the foothills of Skyline Regional Park. As you drive through the neighborhoods winding roads you will see parts of both courses. Once you take the last roundabout you get the most majestic view of Victory’s 18th finishing hole. Some of my favorite things about this course are the driving range, fairways and views.
The driving range butts up against the side of jagged rock, tucked adjacent from the clubhouse. Facing outward towards the targets you can see the neighborhood and in the backdrop is the mountainside of the regional park. The practice green is one of the wonkiest designs I’ve ever seen but great if you are looking to incorporate some fun into your practice. Having many different elevations and wrapping in a circle make this a trick shot players heaven.
The first 9 holes are all playing along the developing neighborhood in the foothills of the mountainside. Just a stones throw from the fairways make these views breathtaking. You have plenty of room to work with in the fairways but miss left or right and risk trouble you can’t get out of. Playing over 7200 yards and Par 71from the black tees, this course is short by no measure. If you can get off the t-box this is one of my favorite 9 hole set ups I’ve played this year.
Turning to the back 9 you loop into the neighborhood starting on the 10th hole. Playing with tighter fairways and smaller greens, this is a little shorter than the front 9 holes but, equally as challenging. The layout of this 9 is fantastic for having some fun with your golf mates. 2 shorter and very reachable par 4’s make going low a little easier. One of those is the 17th hole that gives you some early relief before finishing on the best hole of the course. 18! A Par 5 starting at the top of a rocky hill you are met with lots of water in front of you. With very little room for relief you really have to hit a good ball to clear the water. If you are lucky enough to do so the approach shot is still, tucked back behind a bowl shaped rock canyon giving you no room to miss. Make sure you hit the green on your approach shot our you are sure to be in trouble. This is by far my favorite hole here at Victory.
Every hole offers a different view of the mountainside and Phoenix. The green, lush, moving fairways and practice green make this one of the West Valley's most hidden gems. Great rates, even during peak season make this worth the price of admission alone. Locals be sure to check out their “golf vantage” pass for more discounts and bonuses. If you are traveling or a AZ resident be sure to put this on one of your lists of stops you won’t be disappointed.
